Sea Grant
Louisiana Sea Grant
is a part of the National Sea Grant College Program, a federal-state
cooperative and university-based initiative that focuses on research,
outreach and education related to marine and coastal issues. There
are 32 programs located in the coastal and Great Lakes states
and Puerto Rico. Sea Grant programs work individually and in partnership
to address major marine and coastal challenges.
In 1966, Congress
established the National Sea Grant College Program, now administered
by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The term
“Sea Grant” was selected to underscore the similarity
between this new program, focused on national coastal and marine
resources, and the Land Grant program created more than a century
earlier to develop agricultural resources. For information on
the National Sea Grant Program, visit www.seagrant.noaa.gov.
Since its
establishment in 1968, the Louisiana Sea Grant College Program
has worked to promote stewardship of the state’s coastal
resources through a combination of research, education and outreach
projects critical to the cultural, economic and environmental
health of Louisiana’s coastal zone. For information about
Louisiana Sea Grant, visit www.laseagrant.org.
Sea
Grant Legal Program
The Sea Grant
Law & Policy Program, one of only four legal programs, is
part of the law and policy component of the Louisiana Sea Grant
College Program. The SGLPP provides unbiased research, education
and outreach on marine and coastal law issues to its constituents.
It provides research to state and federal agencies, local governments,
universities and the general public. While its work focuses on
the State of Louisiana, it also has regional and national application.
Browse the other sections of the Web site for more information
about the SGLPP, the staff and its products.
Law
Clerk Duties
Law clerks
act as research assistants to the Director and Legal Coordinator.
Law clerks conduct research and write memoranda on natural resource,
ocean and coastal law issues. The law clerks at the SGLPP also
have the opportunity to write for professional publication. Publication
opportunities can be articles for the SGLPP’s Louisiana
Coastal Law newsletter or in a law review. Law review articles
can focus on topics tailored to the law clerk’s interest,
though it also must be relevant to the SGLPP’s mission and
focus on a natural resource, ocean or coastal law issue. SGLPP
law clerks are encouraged to follow in this endeavor should they
express an interest in obtaining publication credits.
