Students, faculty, staff, and alumni of Louisiana State University, either as individuals or as organizations, who demonstrate an extraordinary commitment to community and who make a positive difference will be recognized through a new university awards program in celebration of LSU’s 150th Anniversary.

Award Goals

The Chancellor’s Sesquicentennial Service Award program seeks to honor individuals or groups who have gone beyond the scope of their job or organizational requirements to contribute their time and talents to LSU and/or the community in ways that benefit the common good.  As many as 10 winners -- from students, faculty, staff, and alumni of LSU as individuals or organizations-- will be named by Chancellor Martin and recognized at a special ceremony during the LSU 2010 Homecoming football game.

Eligibility

Individuals or organizations comprised of full- or part-time students, full-, part-time, or retired faculty and staff members, and alumni of LSU are eligible for the awards. Service must have been performed on a volunteer basis and can be on-campus or off-campus.

Nominations

Nominations, including self-nominations, will be accepted from any informed party.  Please submit a completed nomination information form, a typed statement of nomination based on the criteria listed below, and a letter of support to:

Nominations statements should be no longer than 3 double-spaced pages in length. Include a letter of support from someone familiar with the nominee's service. Two letters of support are encouraged.

All nominations must be received by the committee no later than 4:30 p.m. April 30, 2010.

Selection Criteria

Criteria that may be used in preparing nomination statements include but are not limited to the following. Please address all that apply.

  • Activity: Describe the specifics of the nominee’s service.
  • Commitment: Describe how the nominee has exemplified dedication and commitment to community.
  • Impact: Describe how the nominee’s service has resulted in a positive and sustainable change for other individuals, an organization or community.
  • Initiative: Describe any new programs or problem-solving ideas implemented by the nominee.
  • Need: Describe how the nominee’s service met an organization’s or community’s need.
  • Spirit of Service: Describe how the nominee has displayed a sincere interest and spirit for service.
