| After Hurricane Katrina, the LSU Faculty Senate appointed a blue0ribbon panel to propose procedures govenring financial exigency declarations by Louisiana State University and by the LSU System. The recommendations, which have been approved by all active faculty senates or faculty represeentation bodies at the various LSU campuses, were derived from LSU and System documents promulgated in the mid-1990s but never formally adopted or codified and were then checked against recommendations from the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) and also adapted for the special laws, customs, and histories of Louisiana public higher education institutions.
