Myths and Facts about GeauxTeach

Myth: I'm planning for medical, veterinary or graduate school and this will sidetrack me.
Fact: Teacher certification is seen as a plus for entrance to medical, veterinary or graduate school. If you can teach others complicated math or science concepts, you probably understand them very well yourself.
Myth: I'm just not ready to commit to the program because I'm not sure I would even like teaching.
Fact: That's why up to $170 in scholarships are available to students who take the one-hour Step One and Step Two classes and make at least a "C". This allows students to test-drive the program and see if they like it.
Myth: Getting a degree in math or science and certification to teach will take me too long.
Fact: Not additional hours are required since elective hours are used for education courses. GeauxTeach participants can still graduate in four years.
Myth: There's a catch. I have to commit to teach for a certain amount of time, right?
Fact:
No catch. No commitment. No kidding.
Myth: I would be reluctant to consider teaching even in the short-term because teachers aren't paid very well.
Fact: Students who don't get into graduate school immediately can earn between $43,000 and $47,000 annually teaching in East Baton Rouge, Ascension and Iberville public schools, until they are accepted. GeauxTeach graduates can pay back student loans, save money for a first house, or whatever they want. In an unpredictable economy, two career options are better than one.
Myth: This sounds too good to be true - two careers with one degree and it doesn't take any extra hours.
Fact: Now we can almost understand why you might believe this myth. But it's true - two careers with one degree and no extra hours.
