About Our Program
The Southern American Studies Association began in 1989 when three ASA chapters - Southeastern, Lower Mississippi, and a segment of Virginia - merged to become the geographically largest regional ASA chapter.
Our 2001 Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, focused on "Commencement de Siecle: American Culture for New Centuries."
We are currently accepting papers for our 2005 Conference, "Coastal Cultures/Islands and Rims: Remapping the Realm of American Studies," February 17-20, 2005 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
