How will the University communicate
with students, faculty, and staff?
Students, faculty, and staff will be notified through multiple forms of
communication.
How will we get information and updates
in situations where we don’t have access to the Internet?
If you lose power and Internet access, and have a battery-powered radio,
tune in to local radio stations for updates. LSU's emergency hotline number,
1-800-516-6444 or 578-INFO (4636), will also be kept up-to-date.
Will the LSU v. Troy football game be played on Saturday as scheduled?
No. The game will be played November 15. Fans are advised to keep their tickets to use on that date. In addition, soccer and volleyball events scheduled for the weekend of September 6-7 have been cancelled.
Where do I go and/or who do I contact
if I want to volunteer?
Visit the Volunteer Information page on the LSU Web site to learn more about volunteering at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center and the Carl Maddox Fieldhouse at medical and special needs facilities.
Will LSU provide Medical Care
for evacuees as in the past?
The PMAC and Fieldhouse are set up for those with referred SPECIAL NEEDS patients only.
Each special needs patient may be accompanied by a caregiver. The Federal
Medical Station (FMS) at the Field House is for referred patients only.
Are credentialed medical workers needed at the special needs shelters on campus?
Yes. Credentialed medical workers are needed at the PMAC and Fieldhouse special needs shelters. Medical workers are asked to show up at the PMAC with their credentials. However, medical workers who are members of a hospital, clinic, or other organization are asked to contact their supervisors, as these organizations may already have contacted PMAC staff.
Will LSU provide shelter or
other accommodations for evacuees?
In general, no shelter will be provided. The PMAC and Fieldhouse will be set up for those
with SPECIAL NEEDS only. (See “Medical Care”)
Will LSU provide a pet shelter as
in the past?
LSU will not provide shelter for animals. The School of Veterinary Medicine
will only provide shelter for their regular patients. Visit the Information for People Evacuating with Pets web page for more
information.
What do I do if I need to get an animal rescued from a storm-affected area?
If you are trying to get an animal rescued, call your local Office of Emergency Preparedness (OEP) or Animal Control office. Parish OEP numbers are listed on the LSU Veterinary Medicine - Hurricane Information for Animal Owners webpage. If those offices can't assist you, they will make a request for help on your behalf to the State Department of Agriculture.
How has the city of Baton Rouge fared?
The greater Baton Rouge area has incurred significant damage as a result of Hurricane Gustav. Visit the Baton Rouge Government - Emergency Information webpage for information about road, school, and government office closures; sand bag, meal, and water distribution locations; shelter locations; and the like in the Baton Rouge area.
How do I apply for FEMA assistance?

Are classes cancelled? When will
they resume?
Classes will be cancelled through Friday, September 5. LSU will reopen Monday, September 7. (Please refer to
the LSU Web site, www.lsu.edu, for any updates regarding class scheduling.)
For those who do not have access to the Internet, refer to the emergency hotline at 225-578-4636 or 1-800-516-6444 (toll free). Also, please stay tuned to your local news station for any updated information, as LSU will provide media updates as we get information in.
Will registration be extended
due to the Hurricane?
All dates—add/drop dates, drop without W date, last day to add classes, and last day to get 90% refund on tuition and fees—will be adjusted to compensate for this event.
Will student workers have to report
to work if classes are cancelled?
LSU will be closed through Friday, September 5. For their safety and security, student workers are being told not to report for work. Please check the LSU homepage and/or with your supervisor to find out when campus will reopen.
Is LSU extending the fee bill deadline?
The University will make every effort to assist students who experience difficulties paying fee bills as a result of Hurricane Gustav. When it is available, an adjusted academic calendar with an updated fee bill deadline will be posted on the LSU Web site or the LSU hotline (1-800-516-6444).
Will the bus system still be running?
Where do I get information and schedules?
The bus system (CATS) and campus transit are currently not running. Please continue to check the "What's Open" page on the LSU Web site for more information.
Will dining be available? What
will be open on campus?
The 459 Commons is open to on-campus students. Daily hours of operation are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. All other campus dining facilities will be closed.
Will students in Residence Halls
and on-campus apartments be able to return?
Yes. Residential Life facilities, including all residence halls, campus apartments,
and family and graduate housing, are open. LSU is asking that
students who remain on campus take all necessary precautions while they move about.
Is it safe to come back to campus residence halls?
Campus residence halls are open with power and meals, but the greater Baton Rouge area is still without many services, including power and telephone. For the safety and security of the campus community, LSU officials are asking all nonresident students and nonessential personnel to remain off-site until operations resume.
What buildings have power at LSU?
All residential halls except Edward Gay have power. For the safety and security of the campus community, LSU officials are asking all nonresident students and nonessential personnel to remain off-site until operations resume.
Do residence halls have Internet access?
Residence halls do not have wireless Internet access. Any University buildings that have wireless access do not have power and are not open. Students should use plug-in modems in their residence hall rooms.
Can my relatives stay with me?
Yes, but all roommates need to agree to the arrangement and fill out a
form at the front desk of the residence hall. The arrangement has to be
initiated by the student and will only be temporary.
Where do on-campus students go
in the event of power outages?
Students are asked to stay in their residence halls until power is restored.
Living quarters have the highest priority in terms of power being restored
on campus.
What do I do if there is a tornado
on campus?
Stay inside; move to the interior of the building and away from rooms
with windows.
Where will health and medical care be provided if needed?
Emergency health services (including mental health services) will
be provided to students by the Student Health Center. The Student Health Center is open Wednesday, September 3, through Friday, September 5, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. It is closed Saturday, September 6, but will reopen Sunday, September 7, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The phone number for the Student Health Center
is 578-6271.

When will Tiger Day and Family Weekend be held?
Tiger Day and Family Weekend will be held on November 15. All game tickets will be honored. The LSU Family Association will offer refunds for the Family Weekend registration fee for those families that are unable to readjust their plans for an alternate weekend. More information will be made available at a later date.
How do I contact my student?
We recommend that you and your student have an established plan for how
you will communicate with one another. Cell phones are great, but it’s
important to have a back-up plan in case lines go down. Visit the Tips

with your student.
My student will not return my phone
calls – how do I find out if he/she is okay?

I was expecting a payroll check or direct deposit on Friday. Will I still get paid?
Payroll is operational and the University will be depositing payroll using direct deposit this Friday. The University is mailing paper checks on Wednesday to anyone without direct deposit.
