A Sport Club is an organized group that has been formed by individuals who are motivated by a common interest and desire to participate in a particular sporting activity.  Sport Clubs are meant to provide a learning experience for their members through involvement in teamwork, fund-raising, public relations, organization, administration, budgeting and scheduling, as well as through the development of skills in their particular sport.  Involvement is an individual and team experience that helps enhance the student’s overall education while living in the university setting.  More specifically, Sport Clubs are formed so the participants in each club may learn new skills, improve existing skills, engage in competition, and enjoy recreational and social fellowship.

Fall 2009: LSU Sport Club Updates

  • LSU Equestrian will hold an informational meeting for new members on Thursday, August 27th in the Red Room of the Union at 7 PM. Beginners and riders of all skill levels welcome! For more information, e-mail kschlu1@lsu.edu, or see web site www.eqteam.lsu.edu.
  • Ultimate Frisbee is fast-paced, exciting sport, combining speed and athleticism.  If you want to get and stay in shape in a competitive environment, come out and play with the LSU Ultimate Men’s Club.  All experience levels are welcome to join the club.  Contact: dverma1@lsu.edu for more information.
  • LSU Women's Club Soccer tryouts will be held September 1, 2 & 3 from 8-10 pm at the Sport and Adventure Complex. For more info contact Meredith Brown at lsuclubsoccer@gmail.com.
  • The LSU Bowling Club consists of both a men's and women's team.  The Bowling Club’s first meeting will be held on August 31, 2009 at 7p at Circle Bowl located at 8788 Florida Blvd.  Anyone who is interested can come and sit-in to see and learn more about the LSU Bowling Club.  Please visit our web site for frequently asked questions, information about the team and contact information: http://www.lsu.edu/studentorgs/bowlingclub/.
  • Come learn an effective method of self defense that is a fun, competitive sport, and grounded in the theory of maximum efficiency and mutual benefit and welfare with the LSU Judo Club.  Judo is a grappling art that teaches both effective standing and ground techniques. The Judo Club invites students that are either interested in joining or wish to learn first-hand more about judo to sit in on a few classes before deciding if judo is right for them.
  • The LSU Rowing Club welcomes interested students to join our club regardless of rowing experience.  Practices are held year-round, M-F at 6a.  The Rowing Club travels throughout Louisiana and the greater southeast to compete in regattas against colleges from across the nation.  If you are interested, please meet with club members at the Student Organization Fair on September 2, 2009 from 10a – 2p in Free Speech Plaza and learn about upcoming "Learn to Row" days which will be held Thursday, September 3, 2009 and Friday, September 4, 2009.
  • LSU Men’s Club Soccer.  Currently, Louisiana State University does not have a NCAA men’s soccer varsity program.  As such, the men’s club soccer team is the highest outlet for competitive men’s soccer at LSU.
  • Every year the Louisiana State University men’s soccer club consistently fields a highly competitive team that contends for honors at the regional and national level.  During the fall semester, the LSU men’s soccer club competes against numerous club teams from other universities throughout the nation in friendly matches and tournaments in preparation for the National Intramural Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) Region IV soccer tournament.  Post-season play and participation in the NIRSA national tournament are determined by the club team’s performance in the Region IV tournament.  The spring season presents an opportunity for further training and competition against other club teams in friendly matches and tournaments.
  • Men’s Club Soccer Official Tryouts
All students are welcome to attend both the open training session and tryouts for club.  The open training sessions and tryouts will be used to assess all athletes on their technical and tactical skills, as well as performance during real game situations.  Because of the large number of players that attend tryouts, it is highly recommended that players attend as many open training and tryout session as possible.

All players must pay a one-time, non-refundable $10 fee for the open training/tryout sessions.  100% of the money collected will be used to pay for club fees, including registration for tournaments.
  • Open Training Session:  A 3-day open training session will be held at the UREC Sport and Adventure Complex (SAC) fields during the first week of school on the following dates and times:
    • Tues: (8/25) 5-7 PM
