Over the winter break, LSU University Recreation has scheduled the replacement and addition of equipment in the Student Recreation Center as well as updates to the flooring in the weight and cardio areas. 90 pieces of new selectorized and free weight equipment have been purchased and will be available for use beginning January 13, 2012. The new equipment includes new benches, racks and accessories. These updates are scheduled to take place during the semester break when the facility typically has a decline in traffic in order to impact the fewest number of students and UREC members.
HOW WILL THIS PROJECT IMPACT YOUR WORKOUT?
UREC staff will begin removing some equipment from the weight room floor in order to make room for new equipment and the relocation of cardio machines. Cardio equipment will be moved to other areas in the weight room and will be available for use throughout the project. The relocation of equipment will begin on December 16, 2011, when the Student Recreation Complex will be closed due to the hosting of LSU Commencement ceremonies.
From December 16, 2011, through January 13, 2012, some pieces of weight equipment will be unavailable until new equipment is installed. A limited number of existing weight equipment will be available throughout the project. The circuit room, located near the SRC equipment desk, and the powerlifting room will be operational throughout the project as alternative workout locations. We ask for your assistance in being flexible with your workout routine during this time.
On January 6, 2012, the cardio area is scheduled to reopen.
On January 13, 2012, all new equipment is scheduled to be operational.

Donate 10 canned-foods and receive a free guest-pass October 25, 2011 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Do your part in giving back to the community by donating cans in this year’s CANapalooza canned-food drive at LSU. CANapalooza is a campus-wide service project at LSU aimed to help out the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank by collecting thousands of cans. In 2010, The Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank (www.brfoodbank.org) donated over 11 million pounds of food to 11 various parishes in the Baton Rouge area, but a severe shortage still exists.
Do your part in helping out. Drop off your cans at LSU UREC, one of the official drop-off locations for CANapalooza. In appreciation for your donation, LSU UREC is offering those who donate 10 canned-foods at the UREC Operations Desk a free one-day guest pass. This offer is only valid for LSU full-time students and UREC members through November 8, 2011.
Volunteers will build a replica of Tiger Stadium during Homecoming Week on Thursday, November 10 and Friday, November 11 with those cans collected throughout the drive. For more information on CANapalooza and other Homecoming festivities, go to www.homecoming.lsu.edu.
