LSU University Recreation

healthy-lifestyle-header

Healthy Lifestyles is a holistic approach to health and wellness that encompasses physical, mental, social, emotional, and spiritual health. It is not only about making healthy food choices and being physically active, but about making sound choices overall that positively affect our quality of life. University Recreation is dedicated to helping the LSU community adopt healthy lifestyles. It is our hope that we can encourage LSU to embody wellness as a journey rather than a destination. To help make this possible, the Healthy Lifestyles staff is working diligently to provide a greater variety of program options to meet the unique needs of the entire LSU community.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY LOG

Physical activity is a key element in the adoption of a healthy lifestyle. It can not only decrease an individual’s risk for diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and obesity, but can help to improve feelings of confidence, reduce stress, and improve sleep patterns.

Engaging in physical activity doesn’t always mean a trip to the gym for a session on the treadmill or in the weight room. It can be as simple as performing lawn or garden work, taking the stairs instead of the elevator/escalator, or parking the car farther away than normal when taking trips to the store.

While physical activity of any kind is always a good thing, a well-rounded program is one that consists of cardiovascular exercise (walking, swimming, cycling), resistance training (weight training using machines, dumbbells, or body weight), and flexibility training (stretching). Keeping track of physical activity patterns can greatly improve the chance of successfully making activity part of your lifestyle.
