USTEP is designed to provide a detailed knowledge of LSU University Recreation to include developing the skills needed to be an effective UREC Supervisor. Parts of the course are instructor lead, where other parts are web-based. Participants will learn skills that will be valuable to them while a student employee of University Recreation, in addition to lifelong leadership skills that can be used in their future career.
Prerequisites: The following steps must be completed to be recommended for USTEP.
- In good standing
with current American Red Cross First Aid/C-PRO certification
- Complete Supervisor Application
submit to Training and Development with a cover letter/letter of intent
- Letter of Recommendation
from a student in a supervisory position or professional staff member
- Interview with Training and Development
when application and letter of recommendation are received
Course Content: The following steps must be completed to be recommended as an applicant for UREC Supervisor. Steps may be done in any order. Verification of all training must be submitted to Training and Development.
- Emergency Action Plan - 2 hour training with written exam
- Conflict/Resolution workshop - 1 hour workshop with written exam
- Leadership/Motivation workshop - 1 hour workshop with written exam
- Sexual Harassment workshop - 1 hour workshop with written exam
- Guest Services - 2 hour training with written exam
- UREC 101 - 1 hour training with written exam
