Undergraduate Requirements

The following requiements are the LSU College of Arts and Sciences Curricular Requirements for a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. The requirements are for the 1995 Catalog and after.

A total of 128 hours are required for graduation; of these, a minimum of 31 hours must be in courses numbered 3000 or above. Students may count a maximum of 45 hours in Psychology toward degree requirements, however, for each hour in excess of 36 hours taken in Psychology, one hour of upper level work (3000 or above) must be taken outside Psychology.

A "C" average (2.00 GPA) in Psychology and in all work undertaken at the University is required for graduation. In addition, the Psychology Department requires a minimum GPA of 2.50 to declare the major and to enroll in certain required courses.

Psychology Courses

The Department of Psychology requires a minimum GPA of 2.50 (LSU and overall) to declare the major. Additionally, some courses have a prerequisite GPA minimum of 2.50. These courses are indicated below with an asterisk (*).

We have developed a distinction within the major between the BA and BS degrees. The BS degree is designed for students who intend to pursue careers in Psychology and who desire to attend graduate school. The BA degree is more suited for students who are interested in Psychology but who do not intend to have a career in Psychology.

Psychology Minor

A minor in psychology will consist of 15 hours:

  • PSYC 2000
  • Two (2) courses from Core Areas (II above)
  • Two (2) courses from Electives (III above)

*Students must have a minimum GPA of 2.50 (LSU and overall) in order to be eligible for enrollment in this course.
