Undergraduate Training Opportunities

Providing undergraduate students with the necessary experiences and training to be competitive when applying to graduate school has long been a priority in Dr. Davis’ lab.  To date, Dr. Davis has mentored and trained over 50 undergraduate students in clinical psychology, research methodology, and graduate school preparation.  Most who have subsequently applied to graduate school have been accepted (though there are no guarantees).

It is becoming increasingly harder to get into graduate programs in clinical psychology.  Among other things, you will need a very good GPA and GRE score, 3 good references, and research experience.  Dr. Davis’ lab provides a means for getting the necessary research experience.  Not all research experiences are created equal, however.  At a minimum for their applications, students need to show they have worked in a research lab; however, this is increasingly becoming a bare minimum for consideration.  More often, students are increasingly demonstrating their commitment to research and getting into a graduate school by developing their own projects, attending and presenting at conferences, and writing up their findings.  Dr. Davis’ lab provides these opportunities for committed, industrious students serious about preparing for graduate school in clinical psychology.

You need a comprehensive research training experience.

Undergraduate students are incorporated into the lab at many levels and may participate in…

· Research projects

· Regular lab meetings

· Regular journal club meetings (1st photo)

· Data entry

· Session preparation

· Physiological & behavioral assessment (2nd photo)

· Research write-up and presentation (3rd & 4th photos)

Further, students who perform well and make a multi-semester commitment to the lab are able to collaborate with Dr. Davis and his graduate students to create conference presentations (an increasingly necessary resume item to be competitive for graduate school in clinical psychology).

Undergraduate positions in Dr. Davis’ lab are very competitive and the lab is kept relatively small to provide students with individualized training and instruction.  Applicants must meet minimum GPA and other qualifications.

Email Dr. Davis at ted@lsu.edu and attach a resume of your qualifications, including your current overall and psychology GPAs.
