Industrial/Organizational Psychology

photoTThe Industrial/Organizational (I/O) Psychology area at LSU is one of the oldest continuously operating I/O doctoral programs in the country. The mission of this program is to provide graduate students with the highest quality education from a scientist-practitioner perspective, and to enable graduate students to acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities associated with I/O psychological theories, principles, research methods, and ethics. The small program size allows for personalized graduate training for employment in academia, industry, government, and consulting, with the goal of improving organizational effectiveness. Our graduate program emphasizes research using multiple methodological tools, and encourages training in complementary disciplines including business management and information sciences, among many others.

Graduate students in the I/O area take a variety of courses (e.g., personnel selection; training; groups & teams; leadership; motivation; organizational development; etc.), engage in both field and laboratory research with faculty, and participate in team projects with area businesses and industry. LSU is one of only two I/O doctoral programs in the state, and is located in the city of Baton Rouge, the state’s government capital and industry center. Employment opportunities after graduation are plentiful, with approximately 50% of graduates pursuing careers in private applied positions, 30 % with consulting firms, and 20% in academic environments.
