Need a Good, Comprehensive Assessment

of your child or adolescent?

The Anxiety Disorders Clinic at LSU provides two main services: assessment and treatment.  Our assessment branch provides psychoeducational assessments for children and adolescents.

what types of difficulties do you assess for?

Frequently, these assessments are prompted by concerns about a child or adolescent's...

  • Poor School Performance

  • Behavior Problems

  • Emotional Difficulties

  • Suspected ADHD

  • Test-Taking Difficulties / Test Anxiety

  • Suspected Anxiety, Depression, or Learning Disabilities

what do you include in an assessment?

Our comprehensive assessments are individually tailored to each child or adolescent's presenting difficulty, but also regularly include...

  • An evaluation of intellectual ability

  • An assessment of academic achievement

  • A thorough semi-structured diagnostic interview

  • A thorough assessment of any existing emotional difficulties

what should I expect and what do I come away with?

Typically, you can expect to come to four sessions for an assessment at the Anxiety Disorders Clinic--though we may ask for additional sessions in order to be thorough.  The first 3 sessions include an initial introduction to our clinic and its procedures with the remaining time and sessions being devoted to testing.

The fourth session is reserved to provide you with detailed feedback about the assessment findings: including providing you with...

  • an overview of findings,

  • a detailed report,

  • useful recommendations, and

  • extra time to answer your questions.

You should come away with a good understanding of your child or adolescent's mental health, functioning, and abilities.  We encourage you to ask questions and want to give you the time to do so.
