Dr. Buckner will be accepting applications for graduate student admissions for the 2013-2014 academic year Graduate students working with Dr. Buckner receive specialized training in research methodologies relevant to understanding the nature and treatment of anxiety disorders and substance use disorders generally, as well as when anxiety disorders co-occur with substance use disorders. The majority of training occurs with adult populations. Students learn the overall process of clinical research, from study conception to execution of research projects to publication and presentation of research findings. Training occurs in three ways: (1) didactic instruction, (2) availability of multiple research projects in which students are encouraged to participate, and (3) provision of clinical services (assessment and treatment of anxiety and substance use disorders) by graduate student therapists under the supervision of Dr. Buckner. In addition to working on on-going research projects, students are encouraged to develop their own lines of research. We strive to promote the use of the scientific method to study and understand cognitive and behavioral processes relevant to psychopathology. Students are trained to become competent clinical psychologists. Thus, students are encouraged to develop skills such as critical thinking, public speaking, writing, research development and execution, and research dissemination, thereby promoting and fostering the production and training of competent clinical scientists. Clinical Training Sites Anxiety and Addictive Behaviors Clinic Graduate students working with Dr. Buckner can obtain clinical experience and training in the context of the AABC, a specialty clinic housed within the Louisiana State University Psychological Services Center (PSC). At the AABC, graduate students conduct assessments and empirically supported treatments in this outpatient setting.
