Message from the President (August 22, 2016)
Dear LSU Students,
Welcome to the fall semester! Some of you are enjoying your first day as an LSU Tiger, while others are entering the homestretch toward graduation. Either way, we’re excited to count you as a member of our family.
LSU’s campus was fortunate enough to escape major damage from the flooding that impacted our state last week, we know that many of our students, faculty, and staff members did not fare as well. We pride ourselves on our university’s close bonds of community, and are hard at work to help our friends and family get back on their feet after such devastation. Already, we have been begun to list resources for those affected and ways in which people can help. Last week, Auxiliary Services offered free laundry service. Check www.lsu.edu/floodrelief frequently, as more resources will be made available in the coming days.
I encourage you all to take care of one another and be as supportive as possible moving forward. The road to recovery is a long one, but we will make it through by working together.
As the semester progresses, be sure to take advantage of the support services LSU provides. The Center for Academic Success should be on your list of places to go during your first month of classes – they offer tutoring, personalized study plans, and much more. Freshmen should consider requesting a mentor from the Tiger Transition Team, a group of LSU upperclassmen committed to helping new students settle into life at LSU. Because everything you do right now should be geared toward taking you one step closer to graduation.
We’re ready for a great semester – and we can’t wait to see what you’ll do at LSU.
