LSU Police Applicant Process

Step 1: Entrance Exam

The LEAPS 9500 Civil Service entrance test is a pass/fail exam. Results are mailed within 4-6 weeks after the exam. More information can be found at www.civilservice.la.gov.

Step 2: Job posted on LSU HRM website

Applicant must submit an application to HRM with passing civil service test score. Applicant can check LSU Human Resources website for job posting. https://lsusystemcareers.lsu.edu.

Step 3: Physical Fitness Assessment

Selected applicants will be contacted to perform a pre-employment fitness evaluation.

Step 4: Oral Interview

Oral interview applications will receive a letter or email informing them of their scheduled date for appearance before an oral interview board.

 

Step 5: Background and Reference Check

A background investigation and Credit History Check will be conducted of all applications. This phase does not require any action by the applicant. LSU Police Department staff will investigate each applicant’s criminal, driving, and credit history. The applicant’s former employers, neighbors and family may be interviewed. Each applicant must sign a waiver giving LSU officers permission to conduct a background check and credit history check.

 

Step 6: Selection of Candidates

Upon completion of the applicant process, applicant information will be assembled in a candidate pool. This information will be reviewed for available positions by members of the selection board. Candidates will then be selected in a nondiscriminatory manner.

 

Step 7: Interviews of Applicant’s References

The applicant’s friends, family, employers, and neighbors may be visited and interview by LSU Police Department officers in order to gather more information pertaining to the applicant.

 

Step 8: Conditional Offer of Employment

Selected applicants will be offered conditional employment pending final review by the Hiring Committee and successful completion of step 9.

 

Step 9: Medical Examination, Drug Test, Polygraph Examination, and Psychological Evaluation

Candidates will be required to report for a medical exam, drug test, polygraph examination, and a psychological evaluation by a licensed, contracted physician on our staff.

 

Step 10: Final Offer of Employment

Selected applicants will be contacted with final offer of employment.

 

Step 11: Start of Employment

All applicants who accept the final offer of employment will receive information regarding the initiation of employment.
