How to Work with Media Relations

Media Relations is the department within Communications & University Relations that publicizes the university through the media, by pitching news and feature stories to the press; by providing the media with scientists and researchers who can provide expert opinions; and by providing information to media representatives for stories on which they are working. The department's goal is to work with the media to promote LSU and to inform the university's local, state and national publics about the research, teaching, programs and events taking place on campus.

Each member of the Media Relations staff has a "beat." Scroll through the beat list to find the appropriate contact person, or call any member of the staff for immediate assistance.

The staff can assist you with finding information for a story, finding a faculty member who can provide an expert opinion, arranging interviews with university administrators, finding possible story ideas and finding photo opportunities. The staff also sends out media advisories, press releases and news and feature articles to the media on a daily basis. During a campus emergency or crisis, the Media Relations staff will also be able to provide the media with updated information, official statements and the name and contact information of any university spokespersons.
