The Business System

The LSU business system includes pieces that are frequently the University's first contact with external audiences. Therefore, these items should present a consistent design, color palette, and typeface.

The LSU business system consists of the following items:

  • Business cards
  • Campus correspondence
  • Compliments card
  • Envelopes
  • Mailing labels, and return address formats
  • Fax cover sheets
  • Formal name tags
  • Letterhead
  • Memo pads
  • Note cards

All campus units must use the designated business system. Campus correspondence forms, fax cover sheets, and mailing labels are available online as templates.

The remaining items, including letterhead, must be ordered from the Office of State Printing.

Items within the LSU business system may not be used for personal matters, non-University business, or student organization efforts.

Personal e-mail and/or Web addresses that do not contain the LSU extension will not be included on LSU business system items.

Supplemental Signatures

The LSU visual identity program provides a method for creating a customized signature by utilizing one of the official logos with the addition of a specific unit name.

The signatures available for download, focus on the parent units and incorporate three versions of the logo as well as various colors.

Individual unit names may be customized and added to the signature underneath the parent unit. Find your parent office on the "LSU Official Names and Departments" list (PDF, 125kb).

The unit name

  • should NEVER replace the parent,
  • should NEVER be larger than the parent,
  • should be typed in one of the three approved typefaces,
  • should be the official name as listed in the LSU General Catalog or the LSU Faculty, Staff, & Student Directory (e.g. Department of History, not History Department).

All standards and guidelines that apply to the basic logos also apply to the supplemental signatures.

NOTE: SECONDARY MARK

A secondary mark can be used by parent units (main administrative units, colleges, centers, and programs). Only the parent mark is acceptable; no individual units or departments can insert a mark.

The secondary mark can never be larger than the primary LSU logo and can only be used at a 30% screen.

The only templates in the business system that allow for secondary marks are the two letterhead options and the envelope.
