Media Relations Tool Checklist

The Media Relations team in LSU's Office of Public Affairs is an available resource for helping you disseminate timely news pertaining to LSU's National Flagship Agenda, faculty, students, staff, events, and projects. The following is a list of media relations tools that you and your public relations representative may consider when disseminating news to the media or the LSU community.

Press Releases - Each year, the Media Relations staff sends out more than 500 university press releases. Based on appropriateness, these releases are sent to local, state, and some national media organizations. Each member of the Media Relations team is assigned campus beats. Visit the online Media Center to determine your Media Relations contact.

LSU Today - LSU Today is the faculty/staff newspaper produced every other week. Its purpose is to keep faculty and staff informed of administrative developments, campus events, and other news that may affect the University community. E-mail submissions can be made to lsutoday@lsu.edu.

Highlights - LSU Highlights, the rotating feature stories on the LSU homepage, are designed to promote the LSU campus and demonstrate how LSU impacts local, state, national, and global communities. Every four months, Public Affairs organizes and prepares the stories for the Web. Requests to feature a story in LSU Highlights should be sent to urelat1@lsu.edu.

LSUWire - LSU Wire is a free subscriber e-mail service that is published weekly. Content of the wire can be reproduced by news organizations. Currently there are about 5,000 subscribers.

Experts Guide & Speakers Bureau - This guide is intended as a tool for members of the media to use when searching for expert sources for news stories. It also represents those LSU experts who have experience or an interest in speaking with journalists. The Media Relations team encourages faculty to sign up at www.lsu.edu/expertsandspeakers.

Tip Sheets - Media Relations team members craft tip sheets to alert the media about certain experts on campus who are available for comment on timely topics in the news.
