NIH is transitioning to a new grants.gov Adobe application package (Forms-D). See NIH notice NOT-OD-16-004, https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-16-004.html. NIH has begun the process of updating Funding Opportunity Announcements (FOAs) in Grants.gov to include both the existing Forms-C and the new Forms-D. FOAs should be updated approximately 60 days prior to the proposal due date.
For FOAs due on or before May 24, 2016, applicants should continue to use the Forms-C application package. For FOAs due on or after May 25, 2016, applicants should use the Forms-D application package.
NIH has also updated its application guide and supplemental instructions for the Forms-D packages. See NIH notice NOT-OD-16-084, https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-16-084.html. The updated guide can be found at http://grants.nih.gov/grants/how-to-apply-application-guide.htm and includes both general instructions and specific instructions for applicant types.
The Office of Sponsored Programs has created a Sample NIH Grants.gov Adobe package which identifies common Grants.gov and eRA Commons errors and warnings to aid in proposal preparation. The Sample NIH Grants.gov Adobe package for Forms-D can be found at http://www.lsu.edu/osp/files/NIHGrantsgovAdobesample_online_verD_5-16.pdf.
NIH has also created an Annotated SF424 Application Forms-D set which can be found at http://grants.nih.gov/grants/ElectronicReceipt/files/Annotated_Forms_General_FORMS-D.pdf and a “Do I Have the Right Forms for My Application?” resource which is available at http://grants.nih.gov/grants/ElectronicReceipt/files/right_forms.pdf for your reference.
