Honors College

The LSU Honors College offers special opportunities for academically qualified students from all disciplines throughout your four years at LSU. The program is ideal for those seeking additional scholastic enrichment and excellent preparation for advanced study. Honors classes have limited enrollment, and students benefit from the personal attention of the Honors faculty.

Honors College services and facilities include personalized academic advising and the Honors Residential College in East Laville and Acadian Halls. The honors experience combines the advantages of a small college with the resources and diversity of a major research university. Honors opportunities are available from your freshman year through your senior year, culminating with the Honors thesis.

To qualify for the program, you should meet the following critieria:

  • Have an academic high school gpa of 3.50 or higher and;
  • Have an SAT combined critical reading and mathematics score of 1320, with a critical reading score of 660; an ACT composite score of 30, with an English score of 30; or an ACT composite of 29, with an English score of 31.

Students who are in the Honors College can enroll in various types of honors courses. Honors College courses appear under the “HNRS” abbreviation in the LSU General Catalog and will satisfy General Education requirements for the freshman year. Honors sections of departmental courses (such as chemistry, mathematics, and English) are also available and appear under their respective departmental listings.

After the first semester, eligibility for Honors College admission is based on academic performance at LSU rather than standardized exam scores.

Advisors will be available at the LSU Spring Invitational Program to discuss the advantages of the Honors College and scheduling honors courses. If you have been admitted to the Honors College, you must attend one of the Honors College advising sessions on Thursday.
