Other Freshman Programs
Bengal Bound – an LSU Tradition
Bengal Bound is the new student welcome week for the fall semester. It is a time where the campus community unites to welcome new Tigers to campus. Students have time to become better acquainted with campus, the Baton Rouge community, and their new classmates.
The program begins with “Roaring into the Halls” and concludes with the Chancellor’s Welcome. There are numerous activities coordinated to expand upon what you learned during orientation, showcase campus services, and allow students to meet and relax before the start of classes. Workshops, service opportunities, the academic convocation, and Tiger Roar are just a few of the other events that take place.
Take some time and explore the Bengal Bound site at www.lsu.edu/bengalbound. The resources available on this site will better inform you of services designed for your success.
The LSU Summer Reading Program
The Summer Reading Program will introduce you to the academic and intellectual culture of the University through a common reading experience. The program also allows you to meet faculty members and other new students before classes begin.
As a new LSU freshman, you will be required to read a common text before arriving on campus in August and to attend Academic Convocation, where you will participate in a discussion group with a faculty member.
This past year, LSU freshman read Breach of Faith: Hurricane Katrina and the Near Death of a Great American City by Jed Horne. The next Academic Convocation will take place August 22, 2008. The selection for the class of 2012 will be announced in spring 2008. More details are available at www.lsu.edu/srp.
