Greetings!
As a new student entering LSU, the Office of Orientation has designed the New Freshman Orientation Programs to give you an opportunity to learn more about LSU, take advanced standing exams, and schedule classes. We believe that success during your first semester will set the tone for your future.
LSU and the Office of Orientation welcome you, and we look forward to seeing you at Freshman Orientation during one of the freshman orientation sessions. You will need to pre-register online for your freshman orientation program by the deadline indicated. Registration deadlines are listed on the Sessions, Schedules, and Costs page. Please follow the instructions you received via email carefully. You will notice that some sections of the registration form have been automatically completed from the information currently on file in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. If any of this information is incorrect, contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at admissions@lsu.edu before submitting the Freshman Orientation application.

Spring Invitational Program
Students invited to this program are ranked in the top 15 percent of the nation's high school seniors. Learn more about this program.
Freshman Orientation, Advising, and Pre-registration (Spring, Summer, and Fall)
This program is designed for all new freshmen who enter in the Spring and Summer, and for those entering in the Fall who did not attend the Spring Invitational Program. The program provides an overview of the University and helps you schedule classes. We believe the success during your first semester will set the tone for your future. There are four main components of this program:
- Special interest sessions to enlighten you about LSU’s services and resources
- Testing to earn college credit
- A conference with an academic adviser to plan your first semester of college
- Class scheduling for the fall semester

During the program, you will receive:
- Individual assessments of your skills, preparation, and readiness to pursue programs of study.
- Specific information on more than 70 different courses that new students can take.
You will select:
- Courses for your first semester at LSU.
- Class times for each of your courses.
You will learn about:
- Credits awarded through advanced placement tests and the capability to fulfill graduation requirements.
- Financial aid awards, scholarships, and the costs of attending LSU.
- Housing options.
- Transportation and parking options.
- University resources that can assist you in being successful in college.
- Extracurricular activities and recreational opportunities.
- Academic policies affecting undergraduates.
- Professors’ expectations and performance standards at LSU.
- The nature of a liberal arts education at our research University.
You will meet:
- Your assigned orientation group leader.
- Advisers/academic counselors.
- Faculty who teach some of the courses you may wish to take.
- Student leaders and representatives from clubs, organizations, and Student Government.
- Prominent administrators and University officials.
- Other entering students interested in similar academic areas.
- Fellow new students who may be looking for roommates to share housing expenses.
