                            Applying for the IMSD Program

INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Complete the below application form.

                   

          Application

2. Submit the following documents with your application.
          a. An essay (typed, double-spaced with 1-inch margins on 8.5 by 11-inch paper and no more than 2 pages long) describing a) your career and educational goal(s), b) your reasons for choosing the career goal(s), c) what you have done so far to prepare yourself for your career, d) why you are interested in this program.
          b. Two letters of recommendation
          c. College transcript

STUDENT ELIGIBILITY:

 

1. LSU undergraduates majoring in the natural, physical or behavioral sciences relevant to biomedical research and who are planning to enter a doctoral program in the biomedical sciences directly upon graduation from LSU are eligible to apply. Specifically, students must be planning to pursue a Ph.D. or a combined doctoral/professional degree. Examples of combined degrees are Ph.D/M.D. or Ph.D/D.V.M, etc. Students who plan on obtaining a professional degree and not a Ph.D. are not eligible for this Program.

2. Student participants must be citizens or non-citizen nationals of the United States or have been lawfully admitted for permanent residence.

3. Applicants should have a competitive GPA, good academic standing, and be within 2 years of graduation (junior or senior standing). Prior research experience is helpful, but not required.

4. Individuals of any gender, age, racial or ethnic background are eligible. IMSD Scholars must have the potential to serve as future leaders. They must possess the willingness and ability to be role models and mentors who will play a significant role not only as researchers but also in enhancing diversity in the biomedical sciences.
