Michael, an international studies and political science major with a minor in anthropology, maintained a perfect gpa at LSU. Michael also served as president of Volunteer LSU, helping coordinate about 2,000 volunteers for Hurricane Gustav. He plans to enroll in LSU’s Paul M. Hebert Law Center. |

Sarah is set to begin doctoral studies in biomedical engineering, after which, she plans to pursue a career as a university professor and researcher. Sarah counts LSU professors Mary Beth Lima and William Todd Monroe in the Department of Biological & Agricultural Engineering as professorial mentors on whom she would like to model her future career in higher education. |

Micaela plans to pursue both a master’s degree and PhD in social work and would like to work for the International Rescue Committee, recruiting and training volunteers to serve refugee camps in Africa. In addition, Micaela would like to work with Human Rights Watch to help develop programs that offer refugees specialized counseling services to help them recover from abuses suffered in their home countries. |

Brian, also a 2008 recipient of the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship, plans to enter an MD/PhD program in the fall. He has maintained a perfect GPA at LSU and plans to pursue an MD/PhD in cell biology with hopes of conducting research in the application of tissue-specific adult stem cells as a method of cell therapeutics in regenerative medicine. |

Lauren will graduate from LSU in August with a master’s degree in environmental science with a concentration in environmental planning and management. She graduated from Tulane University in 2006 with a bachelor's degree in environmental biology and environmental science, then worked for the Alliance to Save Energy in Washington, D.C. before moving back to Louisiana and enrolling at LSU. |

John, a biological engineering major with a minor in Chinese, was a recipient of the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship in 2007. John will travel to China for the summer to improve his fluency in Mandarin at Heilongjiang University in Harbin, China. He will begin doctoral studies in biological engineering in the fall. John plans to pursue a professorship or a position with a biotechnology firm once his studies are complete. |

Mass communication senior Amy was selected as one of the nation’s 10 best student reporters by the Scripps Howard Foundation. Amy, a Shreveport native, previously won the Freedom Forum-NCAA sports journalism scholarship, UWIRE Top 100 distinction competition, and several Hearst and Society of Professional Journalists awards. She has interned as a sports Pulliam Fellow at The Arizona Republic in Phoenix, as a features writer at the Christian Science Monitor in Boston, and as a communications assistant at the International Center for Journalists in Washington, D.C. |
