In Memoriam . . . New Orleans

11/01/2005

I know that the people of south Louisiana won't let New Orleans die, and so this is not exactly an obituary. We will rebuild the city, and many of the people will return. But Katrina has changed New Orleans utterly– people are dead (over a thousand at this writing); animals too numerous to count are dead; and so many of the buildings that have stood for several centuries will have to be torn down. Thus, this issue of Necropsy is a memorial to New Orleans, to the city that we mourn. Each of us has chosen works of horror that particularly evoke the city as it was, its unique character more than just a background or a setting, but instead, an integral part of the plot, indeed, a character itself.  These works remind us what we have lost.
