LSU Partners with LSU Real Estate and Facilities Foundation to Commission Land-Use Study for Charity Hospital Redevelopment Project
BATON ROUGE – LSU Health New Orleans has partnered with the LSU Real Estate and Facilities Foundation, an affiliate of the LSU Foundation, to commission a comprehensive land-use study of Charity Hospital.
The Urban Land Institute, or ULI, will conduct the study in New Orleans Nov. 5-10, then will make recommendations as to the best potential use for the property. ULI is a nonprofit education and research institute that provides leadership in the responsible use of land and in creating and sustaining thriving communities worldwide.
Results of the ULI study will inform possibilities for an adaptive reuse of the historic 20-story facility. LSU seeks to identify a commercial partner to transform Charity Hospital for the benefit of a revitalized New Orleans medical district, of which LSU Health New Orleans is a critical part.
LSU President F. King Alexander said, “We look forward to receiving the results of Urban Land Institute’s study and exploring the potential for Charity Hospital to become an exciting hub of downtown development in New Orleans.”
The Charity Hospital building is located at 1532 Tulane Ave. in New Orleans, near the center of the New Orleans metro area and roughly one-quarter mile from the French Quarter to the east, Mercedes-Benz Superdome to the west and New Orleans Central Business District to the south.
