BATON ROUGE – The College Band Directors National Association’s Athletic Band Committee has chosen LSU’s Golden Band from Tigerland to present at the CBDNA National Conference, to be held March 15-18 in Kansas City, Mo.

The Tiger Band, under the direction of Dennis Llinás and Kelvin Jones, is one of eight collegiate marching bands from around the nation recognized by the committee for exceptional or unique performances. The committee selected the Tiger Band after reviewing the “NOLA” marching show, which featured classic New Orleans tunes such as “Second Line,” “Do Whatcha Wanna” and “When the Saints Go Marching In.”

LSU School of Music Director of Bands Damon S. Talley will give the presentation. The historical background, development and direction of “NOLA” will be covered, followed by a question and answer session with other band directors at the conference.

“We are so excited for our students to be recognized on a national stage for all the hard work they have done this season,” Talley said. “It is through their tremendous effort, as well as the fantastic leadership of Dr. Llinás and Dr. Jones, that this is possible!”

“NOLA” premiered at the LSU vs. Mississippi State football game on Sept. 17, 2016. The show was delayed due to the August 2016 floods in Baton Rouge, which impacted numerous band members and their families.

“I think this recognition is, in part, due to the fortitude of the students in the Tiger Band,” Drum Major Daniel Wendt said. “It goes to show the type character our members have – no matter the circumstance we strive toward excellence on and off the field.”
