BATON ROUGE – The Board of Directors of the Virginia Economic Development Partnership, the state economic development agency for the Commonwealth of Virginia, announced today that Stephen Moret has been selected as VEDP’s president and CEO. Moret currently is president and CEO of the LSU Foundation, a position he has held since May 2015.
“Stephen has left an indelible mark on our fundraising efforts,” said LSU President F. King Alexander. “He has positioned our upcoming campaign for great success, and we wish him well on his next endeavor.”
Since joining the LSU Foundation in May 2015, Moret has acted as a liaison to President Alexander to ensure more efficient and effective fundraising efforts among LSU’s affiliate support organizations statewide. During his tenure, the LSU Foundation has modernized the donor database it shares with the LSU Alumni Association and Tiger Athletic Foundation; crafted a blueprint for the future of development at LSU, in collaboration with LSU’s affiliate support organizations statewide; defined the operational architecture needed to launch the university’s next capital campaign; built LSU’s first annual giving team and introduced a campus-wide, collaborative annual giving effort; and broken ground on the Nicholson Gateway Project, which will accelerate student housing development while turning what has traditionally been the back of the LSU campus into an exciting new gateway district.
“We are disappointed to lose Stephen, who has been a phenomenal leader, yet as is characteristic of his business acumen, he will leave the LSU Foundation with a detailed, multi-year plan that is well in progress. This blueprint that Stephen developed in partnership with LSU, coupled with President Alexander’s deep commitment to growing academic philanthropy, positions the university to dramatically increase alumni giving rates and academic philanthropy while preparing LSU to complete the largest capital campaign of any kind in state history,” said T. Cass Gaiennie, chairperson of the LSU Foundation Board of Directors.
Moret said, “Leading the LSU Foundation has been one of the greatest privileges of my career, uniting my passion for LSU with my professional interests. I’m particularly grateful to President Alexander for the unprecedented support he has provided for building a national-caliber fundraising operation at LSU; he has been an outstanding partner. LSU is Louisiana’s strongest economic asset, and the plan we have developed with President Alexander and the campus leadership team to achieve and sustain a transformational level of academic philanthropy is one that I believe will have a multi-generational impact on LSU.”
Moret added, “The VEDP role offers an opportunity for me to leverage my experience and education in a new way, and the move will bring my wife, children and me closer to family, as my mother lives in Richmond and my in-laws are planning to live there for much of each year going forward. The combination of the family and professional benefits represents a rare opportunity that we simply could not pass up.”
Prior to joining the LSU Foundation, Moret was appointed as secretary of Louisiana Economic Development. He had previously served as president and CEO of the Baton Rouge Area Chamber, or BRAC; management consultant with McKinsey & Company; project supervisor with Trinity Consultants; assistant to the chancellor of LSU; an independent consultant to Harvard University; and a public policy fellow with the Public Affairs Research Council of Louisiana, or PAR.
Moret will remain with the LSU Foundation through December. The LSU Foundation will name an interim CEO by the end of the year and will begin a nationwide search for a permanent replacement as soon as possible.
The LSU Foundation’s vision is to catalyze transformational philanthropic support for LSU. The LSU Foundation will realize this vision through its mission to cultivate and invest in philanthropic partnerships to advance LSU’s academic priorities.
