BATON ROUGE – Ten distinguished LSU alumni will be inducted into LSU’s military Hall of Honor on Saturday, Nov. 5.
The induction ceremony is part of LSU Salutes, sponsored by LSU and Cadets of the Ole War Skule. The ceremony will take place at 9 a.m. at the LSU War Memorial on the LSU Parade Ground. This event is free and open to the public.
This year’s inductees are retired U.S. Army Reserve Lt. Col. Walter Patterson Anderson, Charlottesville, Va.; the late retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Henry Elliott Attaya, Huntsville, Ala; retired U.S. Navy Cmdr. William J. Butterworth Jr., Hot Springs Village, Ark.; the late U.S. Army Reserve Lt. Col. William Derwood Cann Jr., Monroe, La.; retired U.S. Navy Cmdr. George H. Fuller, New Iberia, La.; retired U. S. Air Force Col. Gordon Louis Jenkins, Bermuda Dunes, Calif.; retired U.S. Navy Master Chief Intelligence Specialist Genny L. May, New Orleans, La.; the late U.S. Army 1st Lt. Layne Joseph Romagosa, New Orleans, La.; U.S. Army Captain John S. White, Baton Rouge, La.; and the late retired 8th Judicial District Court Judge Hiram J. Wright, Winnfield, La.
Gov. John Bel Edwards, a West Point and LSU Law School graduate, will be the keynote speaker at the dinner following the President’s Reception on Friday, Nov. 4.
The honorees will be recognized during pre-game activities for the LSU vs. Alabama football game at Tiger Stadium, and the Tiger Marching Band will present a “Patriotic Salute” during their halftime show.
Activities planned during LSU Salutes include tours of campus and military memorials. The Commandant’s Luncheon will feature Lt. Col. Lawrence House, LSU’s new Commandant of Cadets. On Saturday, Nov. 5, Cadets of the Ole War Skule will hold its annual meeting following the induction ceremony.
LSU Salutes recognizes all veterans, in particular those who attended LSU and served in ROTC. The Hall of Honor inductees, all of whom must have attended LSU and served in the military, are selected based on their involvement with the university as well as military and community service.
