BATON ROUGE –The National Association of Personal Financial Advisors, or NAPFA, has
named Katie Routh, a second-year LSU Flores MBA Program student from Baton Rouge,
as one of just two recipients of this year’s Paul G. Barringer Memorial Scholarship.
As part of her curriculum, Routh participated in in the college’s CFP Board-Registered
Program. She was recognized at the 2014 NAPFA National Spring Conference, which took
place in Salt Lake City on May 13-15.
NAPFA selected Routh from a national pool of 27 applicants. She said that attending
the conference would be a “valuable experience” as she continues to pursue her career
in the financial planning industry.
“I have always had a strong interest in personal financial planning,” Routh said.
“I worked with Dr. Fran Lawrence to develop the graduate level CFP Board-Registered
Program as well as a financial planning specialization for the LSU Flores MBA Program.”
Routh earned her Bachelor of Science in finance in May 2011, and graduated from the
LSU Flores MBA Program this spring. As a student, she has worked as a graduate assistant
for the college’s Office of Advancement and the Louisiana Business & Technology Center.
Additionally, as the vice president of Philanthropy for the LSU chapter of the National
Association of Women MBAs, she organized this year’s The Home Instead Keep the Pace
5K Run & Walk.
NAPFA hosts several conferences annually. Typically, approximately 150 exhibitors
and 650 practitioners attend each event. Conferences include outstanding educational
sessions in all areas of financial planning, exhibit halls with providers and products
and services and entertainment and social functions.
The mission of the LSU Flores MBA Program is to remain competitive in the national
and regional markets, while fostering learning, leadership and networking in a global
business environment. Full-time, professional and executive tracks are offered and
provide schedule flexibility for those wishing to pursue their MBA from a nationally
