Manship School and the American Press Institute to host “Just the Facts” fact-checking boot camp on March 12

03/04/2016

The Manship School of Mass Communication and the American Press Institute invite communication professionals, students and faculty to attend Just the Facts, a fact-checking boot camp March 12 at the Holliday Forum in LSU’s Journalism Building.

The program will feature a keynote lunch presentation by Adam Chodikoff, senior producer and fact-checker for “The Daily Show.”

Morning workshops will be led by Gardner Selby, writer and editor for PolitiFact Texas, and Brooke Binkowski, writer and editor at Snopes.com.

An afternoon politics panel will feature LSU political communications professors Bob Mann and Ray Pingree, as well as Charles Maldonado, government accountability reporter for The Lens, and Marsha Shuler, a former Advocate reporter now working a policy coordinator for Louisiana Commissioner of Administration Jay Dardenne. Manship Associate Dean Martin Johnson will moderate.

The program is free, supported by grants to API from The Democracy Fund, the Rita Allen Foundation and the Paul and Flora Hewlett Foundation. However, we ask participants to register online, so we can plan for food and seating. The program will include lunch and a light breakfast. Registration and breakfast will start at 8:30 a.m. and the program will wrap up by 3:30 p.m.

The Journalism Building is at the corner of North Stadium Drive and Field House Drive, just northeast of Tiger Stadium on the LSU campus. The best parking is probably right across Field House Drive, with access off Field House, just north of the traffic circle at the intersection.
