Mike Hengel, former editor of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, will speak at LSU’s Manship School of Mass Communication on Wednesday, Jan. 20 at 12 p.m.
The event will be in the Holliday Forum in the Journalism Building and is open to the LSU community and public.
Hengel’s visit comes after he recently stepped down as editor of the Las Vegas Review-Journal after the family of casino mogul Sheldon Adelson took control of the newspaper amid controversy and secrecy, forcing the newspaper to investigate itself to reveal the buyer. His departure comes at a time of widespread unease about what the new owners intend to do. Hengel originally joined the Las Vegas Review-Journal in December 2010.
Hengel will discuss media ethics, crisis communications and public relations; topics all relevant amid the Las Vegas Review-Journal being purchased by a buyer undisclosed to both Review-Journal staffers and the public.
