Department of Educational Theory, Policy & Practice
LSU College of Education

What was your previous position and where?

Before coming to LSU in 2001, I was assistant superintendent of the Milford School District in Cincinnati, Ohio, and I taught part-time for Xavier University in Cincinnati.

What brought you to LSU?

I was in graduate school at LSU from 1980-83 working on a doctorate in reading when my husband was transferred to Cincinnati, so I finished with the Certificate of Education Specialists. My husband and I fell in love with Baton Rouge and LSU and vowed to return. It took us 18 years, but we made it!

What is your research interest?

I continue to seek ways to help my students become outstanding teachers.

What do you hope to accomplish at LSU?

This semester culminates my 41st year in education. Each day I strive to share that knowledge and experience with our future teachers. My goal is for each one to become an outstanding teacher.

What do you enjoy most about LSU?

I love our students! I also enjoy the variety of activities LSU offers. There is something for everyone — from sports to music to theater. LSU keeps us active and alive!

What are your major accomplishments?

  • In November 2010, the LSU Alumni Association named me a Peoples Health Illustrious Alumnus.
  • I am president of the Capital Area Tigers chapter of the Tiger Athletic Foundation and a member of the TAF Board of Directors.
  • In 2009, Ohio University — my undergraduate institution — featured me in its annual publication.
  • In 2008, I received the Undergraduate Teaching Award from TAF.
  • In 1997 — while in Ohio — and again in 2007, I received the Chapter Service Award from the LSU Alumni Association.
  • In 2003, I was tapped as one of the Outstanding Teachers by the LSU Student Government.
  • In 2000, I received Ohio's Breakthrough to the Best Award for our district's performance.
  • In 1995, I was named Ohio's Career Educator of the Year, the first female to win the award.
