Associate Professor
J.P. Morgan Chase/Chuck McCoy Distinguished Professor in Finance #2
Department of Finance
E. J. Ourso College of Business

What was your previous position and where?

I was an assistant professor of finance at Drexel University in Philadelphia.

What brought you to LSU?

I was impressed with the incredible research productivity in the finance department, and its emphasis on high quality research.

What are your research interests?

My major research interests are in financial institutions and regulations. I am interested in the empirical testing of self-selection, signaling, collusion and moral hazard — the games that agents play in the area of finance. The financial services industry plays a crucial role in capital allocation. The enormous amount of money involved provides fascinating opportunities to examine various aspects of organizational and human behaviors. I hope to write papers that enhance knowledge that leads to optimal financial regulations.

What do you hope to accomplish at LSU?

I hope to inspire more students to learn finance like a subject of art, and provoke their curiosity in learning challenging and complex issues. I will also continue to pursue top-tier journal publications to enhance the reputation of LSU both nationally and internationally.

What do you enjoy most about LSU?

Without a doubt, Baton Rouge has become my second hometown. While the collegiality among faculty members and the leadership of senior colleagues make my working days very enjoyable at LSU, the hospitality of the people and the spirit of festivity are pleasant surprises. The rich Louisiana cultures and various events ranging from music to art to sports definitely add to my awesome experiences as a member of the LSU Tiger community.

What are your major accomplishments?

Having former students stop by my office to thank me for how my lectures have affected them is the most rewarding accomplishment for me as an educator. The college’s 2009 Outstanding Teacher Award is a nice encouragement to me. On the research front, besides the top-tier journal publications, I was the recipient of best paper awards including the prestigious FMA Competitive Paper Awards. I was also recognized for my leadership in research as a recipient of the Academic Leadership Award while I was at Drexel University. I have also been a research fellow of Wharton Financial Institutions Center of the University of Pennsylvania since 2003.
