Chad Seifried

Chad Seifried

Associate Professor
School of Kinesiology
LSU College of Human Sciences & Education

What was your previous position and where?

I was a v-assistant professor at The Ohio State University in the School of Physical Activity and Educational Services for the Division of Sport Management from 2005-09.

What brought you to LSU?

I was recruited to LSU and attracted to the position because of the opportunity to work primarily with graduate students and the charge to help establish a new Ph.D. concentration in Sport Management for the School of Kinesiology.

What are your research interests?

My primary research interests embrace the use of historical methods and seek to review the organizational and individual history of decisions and strategies related to the topics of outdoor sport facility construction and management and intercollegiate athletics.

What do you hope to accomplish at LSU?

Personally, I hope to achieve the rank of professor in the near future. Institutionally, I hope to use my facility management interests to help the College of Human Sciences & Education realize a new and renovated Huey P. Long Field House. The college’s faculty productivity and growing enrollments are meeting the university’s flagship goals in many areas. The present state of the field house does not accommodate either group for the realization of future goals and opportunities that may be presented. A new field house would serve as a great social anchor for campus and as a vehicle for future reputational growth, i.e., for LSU and the College. Recently, I completed an article on the history of the field house which will appear in an upcoming issue of Louisiana History.

What do you enjoy most about LSU?

The weather between September and June.

What are your major accomplishments?

I was awarded the J. Franklin Bayhi Endowed Professorship for 2012-2013, named the School of Kinesiology’s graduate coordinator in 2013 and recognized as the Academy of Management’s Management History Division Best Reviewer for the 2012 conference.
