What was your previous position and where?I joined LSU as an assistant professor immediately after earning my Ph.D. from the University of Georgia. Prior to coming to LSU, I held a variety of research assistant positions, including several working on National Institutes of Health and National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health grants.What brought you to LSU?I knew I wanted to work at a large research-oriented university. I was familiar with the research of several faculty members, and I welcomed the opportunity to work with them. Also, because I’m originally from Houston, LSU gave me the opportunity to be a little closer to my family.What is your research interest?My primary research interests are strategic human resource management, employee involvement and empowerment. My focus on these areas springs from a curiosity about the means through which organizations—especially their leaders and managers—seek to align the interests of employees with the interests of the organization in order to achieve better performance from both. I also am interested in research methods.What do you hope to accomplish at LSU?I hope to be a good researcher, a good teacher, a good mentor and a good colleague. In my role as department chair and doctoral advisor, I would really like to strengthen our doctoral program. I especially would like to see more resources devoted to the doctoral program and the number of high quality applicants increase.What do you enjoy most about LSU?I am fortunate to work with outstanding colleagues. Not only do they excel at what they do, but they are simply enjoyable to be around. They help make a good job even better.What are your major accomplishments?I like to think my best accomplishments are yet to come. Nonetheless, some of my research methods work has been recognized with best paper awards at Southern Management Association, or SMA, conferences. I am honored to have been elected to SMA’s board of governors and to have been invited to serve on the editorial board for Academy of Management Review. I am also proud to have completed four marathons.
