LSU Today Flagship Faculty

Ken Reichelt

Ken Reichelt

Associate Professor
Ernst and Young Alumni Distinguished Professor
Co-Advisor to the Ph.D. Program
Department of Accounting
E. J. Ourso College of Business

What was your previous position and where?

Prior to starting with LSU in 2005, I was a Ph.D. student at the University of Missouri from 2001-05 and an MBA student at the University of Hawai’i from 1999-2001 with nearly 20 years of practical experience as a financial controller, accounting manager, internal auditor and an accountant with a public accounting firm.

What brought you to LSU?

A number of things attracted me to LSU. The research active faculty, the Ph.D. program in the accounting department and, of course, the southern hospitality and warm weather.

What is your research interest?

My research interests include audit quality, auditor industry specialization and financial market risk. Some of my previous research examined the pricing of audit fees by industry specialists, the audit quality of industry specialists and the market reaction of audit clients switching to non-big four industry specialists.

What do you hope to accomplish at LSU?

I wish to continue my efforts in publishing in top-tier journals, nurturing Ph.D. students to excel in research and teaching, and training master's students to develop critical thinking skills in current accounting issues.

What do you enjoy most about LSU?

LSU is a great place to learn about the changing world we live in and to lead the world to make it a better place to live. I also enjoy being a Tiger fan.

What are your major accomplishments?

My major accomplishment was getting tenured. The department chair and the faculty were very helpful in creating the right environment to meet my goal. Another accomplishment was introducing several new research databases to the college.
