Mileva Radonjic

Mileva Radonjic

Assistant Professor
Craft & Hawkins Department of Petroleum Engineering

What was your previous position and where?

My previous academic position was at Princeton University, where I spent two years as a visiting scholar in a materials institute. I was also previously at BP America in its Exploration and Production Technology unit in Houston, and that was a non-academic post.

What brought you to LSU?

I was ready to come back to academia after spending some time at a non-profit organization in Washington, D.C., and working at BP; it was clear to me that I enjoyed academia best.

What is your research interest?

My main research interest is CO2 sequestration, which can potentially help reduce global warming. I am also interested in integrity of wellbore materials and why materials fail at the microstructural level.

What do you hope to accomplish at LSU?

I want to contribute to the education of LSU engineers who are creative, confident and competitive on the global job market. My research dream is to establish a “laboratory well” where we will be able to see why cement, casing and rocks break in real time by subjecting these materials to demanding environmental conditions of pressure, temperature, chemistry and collecting data.

What do you enjoy most about LSU?

I enjoy the spirit of LSU students and strong commitment of LSU alumni, the hospitality of Louisiana and the great music and food. I am also grateful that my department gave me this opportunity to come back to academia.

What are your major accomplishments?

Setting up the undergraduate lab with donations from a local company, Ruelco, felt really good because it happened in the middle of a recession. It was amusing that there were the people who wanted to match my enthusiasm for teaching with their donation. The result is a unique production lab with the latest technology.
