Frederick E. "Rick" and Holly A. Wolfert Professor in Business
Department of Information Systems and Decision Sciences
E. J. Ourso College of Business

What was your previous position and where?

I came to LSU directly from Georgia State University after receiving my Ph.D. Prior to my academic career, I had a 20-year career as an IT professional and manager of systems development at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

What brought you to LSU?

The biggest drawing card for me was the environment LSU provided to support my research work, including the opportunity to work with world-class scholars, the multiple sources of research funding available to junior faculty and a vibrant IS doctoral program.

What is your research interest?

My research focuses on topics at the intersection of information technology and knowledge processes, including knowledge management and organizational learning.

What do you hope to accomplish at LSU?

I have two major priorities in my work at LSU. The first is to make a significant contribution to our understandings of the knowledge impacts of information technology in organizations, teams, on-line communities and so on. A second goal is to support an environment for our doctoral students that enables them to embark on significant work in their dissertation studies.

What are your major accomplishments?

My major accomplishments are represented in the new insights that have been built through a series of studies of IT and knowledge processes in a variety of contexts from the impact of enterprise resource planning systems on business-process innovation, to the impact of group support systems on decision making involving ethical dilemmas, to the adoption of IT in healthcare. Im also excited by a recently funded opportunity to extend this work and develop actionable strategies related to knowledge networks in disaster response.
