What was your previous position and where?I was a lecturer in the program on history and literature at Harvard University. What brought you to LSU?The job. There were only two jobs in Anglo-Saxon Studies open in the United States that year. I got 50 percent of them. What are your research interests?Early medieval and comparative law. I am the author of "The Beginnings of English Law" and "The Body Legal in Barbarian Law." They would both make good Christmas presents. What do you hope to accomplish at LSU?I want to create a linguistics and medieval community for graduate and undergraduate students. Encourage a cohort that makes a large university feel like a small and dynamic learning community. What do you enjoy most about LSU?Lady Tiger basketball. My colleagues, both faculty and staff. My students. What are your major accomplishments?Biking 800 miles in France every summer. Learning how to play the mandolin and ukulele, both badly. Teaching my bull mastiff puppy to sit while I put his chow bowl on the floor.
