What was your previous position and where?LSU was my first faculty position. I came here after finishing my Ph.D. at the University of Kansas. What brought you to LSU?I study children's acquisition of language and childhood language impairment. The languages and dialects of Louisiana are not only fascinating but also ideally suited for my research. What is your research interest?I have always studied child language acquisition and childhood language impairment but, in the past five years, my research has considered these topics in the context of poverty and has expanded to include the evaluation of language tests used by speech language clinicians and the efficacy of parent training programs. What do you hope to accomplish at LSU?I’d like to continue the research that I am currently doing with faculty and students at LSU and elsewhere. What do you enjoy most about LSU?I have wonderful colleagues at LSU and I also get to work with great students from around the country who are as passionate about children’s acquisition of language and childhood language impairment as I am.What are your major accomplishments?Securing funds to support a student’s training always feels like a major accomplishment. Thirteen students at the B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. level are currently working in our language lab and 10 of them are funded.
