LSU is an equal
LSU Today Flagship Faculty
What was your previous position and where?I was at the University of Alberta, Canada, for 25 years, followed by The Petroleum Institute in Abu Dhabi for two years before joining LSU.
What brought you to LSU?I started looking around in search of warm weather! Abu Dhabi turned out to be too hot! Second iteration led me to Baton Rouge for an interview. The hospitality and friendly people won us over. So we hope to spend the next 10 years in Baton Rouge.
What is your research interest?I work in the area of multiphase flows, computational fluid dynamics and chemical process modeling.
What do you hope to accomplish at LSU?I hope to contribute to its flagship agenda. I enjoy teaching and research and I wish to continue to engage in both, as I did successfully in Alberta. With such a concentration of chemical industry in this area, I hope to engage in industrially relevant research.
What do you enjoy most about LSU?The chemical engineering department is a wonderful place to work. The students that I have taught so far are very strong and impressive. On the personal side, we have settled down in a nice neighborhood. My wife and kids have found good friends. We enjoy the small, yet culturally rich and diverse environment that Baton Rouge offers.
What are your major accomplishments?I have been recognized by numerous awards for excellence in both teaching and research, but my accomplishments in the classroom with the students is the one that gives me a great sense of satisfaction. Every moment of “Ah, I understand that now” feeling that I create in the student is a moment of great joy.
