LSU is an equal
LSU Today Flagship Faculty
What was your previous position and where?Assistant Professor at the University of Florida.
What brought you to LSU?One of my LSU colleagues insisted that I take a look at the research and professional growth potential at LSU. Needless to say, I was impressed and excited to join the faculty here.
What is your research interest?I study arthropod-borne viruses - mosquito- and tick-transmitted in my case - such as dengue, West Nile and Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever to name a few. I investigate the contributions of virus strain differences to the overall transmission and maintenance of those viruses.
What do you hope to accomplish at LSU?Aside from continuing my research, I look forward to creating opportunities for students to obtain high biological containment research experience, improve their understanding of and access to education in epidemiology and public health and enhancing the recognition of LSU internationally through collaborative research efforts.
What do you enjoy most about LSU?LSU has amazing potential, and the university appears to be aware of this. I am quite positive about the future here.
What are your major accomplishments?Aside from my publications and research funding; over the past 5 years, my research in Central Asia has been involved with the rebuilding of national level laboratory facilities and retraining of its personnel. I am quite proud of the progress we have made and now look forward to upcoming collaborative research projects with my foreign colleagues. I have also completed two BSL-3 Select Agent laboratory renovations here in the U.S.
