LSU is an equal
LSU Today Flagship Faculty
What was your previous position and where?I was an assistant and associate professor at the University of Kentucky. Before that, I was a research fellow at The Brookings Institution.
What brought you to LSU?The opportunity to become a member of a then-growing department that was in the midst of a “quality thrust” was a major attraction to me. As a South Louisiana native and LSU graduate, I was also excited about returning to my home state and leaving the cold of Kentucky.
What are your research interests? My research interests are in the areas of monetary economics and fiscal policy, particularly the estimation of the macroeconomic effects of monetary and fiscal policy and the study of the behavior of central banks.
What do you hope to accomplish at LSU?I hope to contribute to the reputation of the economics department through publication of my research and through my editorship of the Journal of Macroeconomics. I also hope to contribute to the quality of graduate and undergraduate education at LSU.
What do you enjoy most about LSU?I enjoy working on a beautiful campus and interacting with my students and colleagues. I also enjoy the warm sunny climate of South Louisiana and LSU sports.
What are your major accomplishments? My work over the past 20-plus years as an editor of the Journal of Macroeconomics ranks as a major accomplishment, as do my professional publications, my supervision of a number of dissertations and an honors thesis, and my receipt of awards for undergraduate and graduate teaching. I’m also pleased to have served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Southern Economic Association.
