What brought you to LSU?The LSU School of Library and Information Science is a highly rated professional MLIS program with a respected health sciences librarianship specialization. I had known most of the Louisiana medical librarians as my colleagues and was confident that we could work together to educate the new generation of health information professionals.
What is your research interest? My research interests are healthcare providers' information behavior and innovative information services improvised during community-wide disasters.
What do you hope to accomplish at LSU?I expect to contribute to the body of research in the discipline of information science and to educate professional practitioners who delight their clients, communities and organizations.
What do you enjoy most about LSU?I enjoy the collegiality of the LIS school's faculty and the wonderful graduate students we have. I am also delighted with the successful and exciting careers of our alumni.
What are your major accomplishments?Since coming to LSU five years ago, I have received two federal grants and have published a book, three book chapters and nine research articles in peer-reviewed journals. I have served on the U. S. National Library of Medicine Biomedical Library and Informatics Review Committee, the Board of Directors of the Medical Library Association and as chair of the Medical Library Education Section of MLA. I am the faculty sponsor for the Beta Phi Mu honor society and have developed a new course in publication for library and information science professionals. I was an invited speaker at 10 professional and research association meetings, presented six contributed papers and taught eight continuing education classes for professional practitioners. The University of North Texas College of Information, where I earned my Ph.D. in 2004, honored me with a "Rising Star" alumni award.
