 Mandi Lopez

Mandi Lopez

Associate Professor of Veterinary Surgery
Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences
Director, Laboratory for Equine and Comparative Orthopedic Research
School of Veterinary Medicine

What was your previous position and where?

I was at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where I did a large animal surgical residency, M.S., Ph.D. and post-doctoral fellowship.

What brought you to LSU?

I came to LSU for the opportunity to design and implement a multi-faceted, highly sophisticated orthopedic research laboratory with the capacity to support research studies in multiple species.

What is your research interest?

My research interest includes all things orthopedic, including osteoarthritis, fracture healing, implant design and testing, kinetics and kinematics, adult stem cell applications and treatment of anterior cruciate ligament rupture.

What do you hope to accomplish at LSU?

My major goal is two-fold - to promote and support multi-disciplinary research within and between departments and colleges that advances the orthopedic health and well-being of animals and humans alike.

What do you enjoy most about LSU?

What I like most about LSU are the limitless opportunities that are available. LSU has cutting edge equipment and accomplished experts in numerous fields of science. I enjoy the many colleagues and collaborators that I work with regularly.

What are your major accomplishments?

By far my greatest accomplishment is sharing my overabundant enthusiasm for science with others, especially those who may not have had as many opportunities to appreciate the joys of discovery and invention. I plan to continue a campaign of sharing the joys of science for the rest of my career.
