LSU is an equal
LSU Today Flagship Faculty
What was your previous position and where? My previous position was as an associate professor of sociology at Mississippi State University.
What brought you to LSU?I am an alumnus of the Department of Sociology here at LSU, having earned my Ph.D. in 1999. I was drawn back to the department by the strength of the curriculum and research faculty in the area of criminology, as well as the potential for significant collaborations in that area.
What is your research interest? My main research area is criminology, specifically the community patterning of homicide and interpersonal violence. I have recently begun publishing in the area of public health, as well on such topics as all-cause death rates, suicide and malnutrition-related deaths among the elderly.
What do you hope to accomplish at LSU?In my role as a faculty member in the sociology department, I hope to continue building the research and teaching strength we have been accumulating in the criminology and public health areas. Through my role in the Office of Research, I hope to continue to do whatever I can to facilitate the success of scholars from all sectors of campus in pursuing extramural funding and expanding their research programs.
What do you enjoy most about LSU?What I enjoy most about LSU is that everywhere I turn, I encounter a profound sense of commitment to this institution and the well-being of its students. There is a pride associated with being part of the Tiger family that you rarely find elsewhere. It is very inspiring.
What are your major accomplishments?None, when compared to some of the incredible faculty we have here.
