What was your previous position and where?I got my Ph.D. in economics at Duke University in 1984 and started working at LSU in the fall of 1984 as an assistant professor. What brought you to LSU?When I was interviewing with LSU, the economics department was in the midst of a transformation. The university administration had provided additional resources to improve the quality of the department and the department was in the process of recruiting highly productive senior and junior faculty. The department’s commitment to research, an invigorated Ph.D. program and a collegial environment brought me to LSU.What is your research interest? In general terms, my research is in macroeconomics and international finance. I am particularly interested in understanding how monetary and fiscal policies affect the economy during the course of the business cycle, how tax policies affect economic growth and how shocks originating in one country are transmitted to other countries. What do you hope to accomplish at LSU?I hope to do good scholarly work and inspire my students. What do you enjoy most about LSU?I enjoy most the collegial environment. What are your major accomplishments?Gaining national and international recognition with my publications and receiving teaching awards are my major accomplishments.
